You heard stories, you read articles, and you watched his show. Your children watched his show. You might know him, and his passion for helping children deal with feelings, but you might not know the person that is Mr. Rogers.
“A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” sees Tom Hanks play Mr. Rogers as he helps a writer, Lloyd Vogel player by Matthew Rhys, through a tumultuous section of his life. Inspired by a true story, we see more of Mr. Rogers than he would have wanted.
We see two sides of Mr. Rogers. We see his TV persona, and the many characters he plays, most notably Daniel the Striped Tiger and King Friday the 13th, and we see the personal side of Mr. Rogers; not at all different from his TV persona. What starts as Vogel interviewing Rogers slowly turns into Rogers helping Vogel. We learn about fatherhood, reality, mortality, and how to deal with it.
A brilliant script and incredible acting by our two leads, this movie is guaranteed to make you think about yourself, your loved ones, and what it means to be truly human.
